University College Dublin: School of Archaeology – MA (2019)
Madeleine Harris completed her MA in Archaeology at University College Dublin in 2019. Her MA thesis focused on analysing archaeological field schools and the impacts they have on their students. The project used multiple case studies, including the Irish Archaeology Field School’s ongoing program in Ferrycarrig, Wexford. Her research analysed various aspects of the field schools such as their objectives, teaching methods, research outputs, and student education and experience. Impact was measured through surveys and interviews of past students, discussing experiences, expectations, and whether or not they are pursuing an education or career within the field of archaeology. The goal of the project was to determine which qualities, if any, found within field schools are most impactful on participating students.
Maddy is a past student, intern, teaching assistant and staff of the IAFS. She published some of her research in our volume on Carrick.
