University College Dublin: School of Archaeology – MA (2019)

Madeleine Harris is currently completing her MA in Archaeology at University College Dublin. Her MA thesis will focus on analyzing archaeological field schools and the impacts they have on their students. The project will use multiple case studies, including the Irish Archaeology Field School’s ongoing program in Ferrycarrig, Wexford. Her research analyzes various aspects of the field schools such as their objectives, teaching methods, research outputs, and student education and experience. Impact will be measured through surveys and interviews of past students, discussing experiences, expectations, and whether or not they are pursuing an education or career within the field of archaeology. The goal of the project is to determine which qualities, if any, found within field schools are most impactful on participating students.

Maddy is a past student, intern, teaching assistant and now staff of the IAFS. She is publishing some of her research in our forthcoming volume on Carrick (see here).
