Heritage Management/Cultural Resource Management Internships
– Professional internship placement in Ireland
Delve into the ancient island of Ireland, its medieval times and learn to run a dig site! This ten week program is primarily based in Trim (Irish: Baile Átha Throim, meaning “town at the ford of elder tree”, a small heritage town with a population of c. 8000 and laden with medieval history, situated only 45 minutes from Dublin. This is a unique opportunity for you to match your theoretical studies with a practical experience in a country steeped in ancient history. You will be involved in one of the most exciting projects in the country; connecting ancient history with modern day society through the media of tourism, education and community engagement. The site in Trim is a shining example of how to balance the preservation of Ireland’s priceless physical heritage and reintroduce these ancient remains back into every-day life in modern times.
Internships are based in the medieval town of trim, County Meath, Ireland. Our ‘outdoor classroom’ (on the Black Friary archaeological site) combines an invaluable internship experience with great academics and a fun-filled summer or semester in the heritage capital of Ireland. For ten weeks you will be directly involved in running the site at trim in conjunction with your fellow interns and the management team. You will be involved in running day-to-day operations (digging, rostering, logistical planning, site visit coordination, community liaison, etc.) as well as planning and delivering various community outreach programs related to the site. This amazing program provides you with experience in and the tools to run a commercial archaeological dig site, as well as what is involved in organizing and conducting the ensuing research. Our interns come from multi-disciplinary backgrounds and university courses including tourism, archaeology, anthropology, history, forensics, and cultural heritage, for example. The active community engagement involved in this program appeals also to students interested in social leadership and responsibility.
There are a limited number of partial scholarships available in 2017. For more details on the scholarship program, contact Learn International.
