Welcome to the Irish Archaeology Field School website

The Irish Archaeology Field School welcomes you to our excavations at Blackfriary, in the town of Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland. When you join our dig, you are part of a project which is bringing to light the remains of this 13th Century Dominican Friary and the friars and townspeople who lived, worked and were buried here. The excavations are carried out with the support of the town council, as the site is in their ownership, and there is great interest locally in our work.

You will be trained in excavation methods by a team of professional archaeologists who have years of experience in both research and cultural resource management. The methods taught and the systems used have been honed by our experience excavating many highly significant archaeological sites uncovered during major infrastructural projects in Ireland over the past 15 years.

To date several of our students have gone on to research aspects of the Blackfriary site as part of their own studies, and we are delighted that this work is opening research opportunities and experience to them.
